OpenForge is an open-source collaboration platform that enables government departments, developers, designers, and contributors to collaboratively build, maintain, and improve digital public products and services. The platform serves as a central hub for discovering open-source projects, contributing to repositories, accessing technical documentation, and fostering innovation across the Government of India digital ecosystem.

Participants are required to conduct a comprehensive UX audit of the existing OpenForge website and redesign the platform to create a modern, intuitive, accessible, and developer-friendly experience. The proposed solution should improve usability, information architecture, navigation, collaboration workflows, and content discoverability while ensuring full compliance with GIGW, WCAG 2.2 AA, the Digital Brand Identity Manual (DBIM), and the UX4G Handbook.

The redesigned interface must be built using the UX4G Design System, demonstrating consistent application of its components, patterns, accessibility principles, and responsive layouts. Participants are expected to deliver a comprehensive, high-fidelity prototype that reimagines the complete OpenForge experience for all major stakeholder groups.

    • Conduct a comprehensive UX audit of the existing OpenForge website using Nielsen’s 10 Usability Heuristics and modern UX best practices.
    • Evaluate and improve the platform’s Information Architecture, navigation, search experience, and content discoverability.
    • Identify usability, accessibility, and interaction design issues affecting developers, contributors, government officials, and project maintainers.
    • Ensure the redesigned platform is fully compliant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA accessibility standards.
    • Ensure compliance with GIGW (Guidelines for Indian Government Websites).
    • Align the redesign with the Digital Brand Identity Manual (DBIM) to maintain a consistent Government of India digital identity.
    • Apply the principles and recommendations outlined in the UX4G Handbook to create a user-centred, scalable, and inclusive digital experience.
    • Design the interface exclusively using the UX4G Design System, ensuring consistency, responsiveness, accessibility, and reusability.
    • Improve project discovery, contributor onboarding, repository navigation, documentation access, and community engagement.
    • Create a responsive, mobile-friendly experience that caters to diverse user personas while promoting open-source collaboration.

Participants should submit a comprehensive design solution comprising:

    • A UX Audit Report documenting usability, accessibility, GIGW, DBIM, WCAG 2.2 AA, and UX4G Handbook compliance findings.
    • Stakeholder analysis, user personas, and key user journey maps.
    • A revised Information Architecture and sitemap for the platform.
    • User flows covering core journeys such as project discovery, repository exploration, contribution onboarding, documentation access, and community participation.
    • Low-fidelity wireframes illustrating structural improvements.
    • A comprehensive high-fidelity UI prototype designed entirely using the UX4G Design System.
    • Responsive designs for desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
    • Documentation demonstrating compliance with GIGW, WCAG 2.2 AA, DBIM, and the UX4G Handbook.
    • A clickable Figma prototype showcasing the complete redesigned OpenForge platform, including all primary user flows and key interfaces.
    • A design rationale summarising how the proposed solution enhances usability, accessibility, discoverability, collaboration, and adherence to Government of India digital design standards.
